Post Removing of fry

I have seen too many instructions indication that when the fry are free swimming after 1 or 2 weeks and having fed on the parents, they should be removed to a growing tank. Isn't it possible just to remove the parents rather than removing many small and delicate fry? Is it that the breeding pair isn't fit to be moved when their body coat is weak and prone to diseases?
