Post betta bubble nests

I am thinking about breeding my bettas, and the beautiful male that I want to breed stopped building bubble nests a while after I got him. How can I convince him to build a nest again? Or should I just breed one of the less exotic ones who is still making nests?

You could try putting another male next to him, or try adding a female for a little bit to kinda get him interested again. Try feeding live foods too.  But you know I had this problem too, and I tried all of the above, and still nothing happend.  So, if nothing does happen, then you probably have a betta that is just too old.

Post Re: betta bubble nests

i bred some bettas some time ago (firsttime) try changing 20% of the water and place a female one in a jar next to him, don't put them together until they are ready to breed u'll need at leasst a ten gal tank about 3-4" of water temp should be around 78F and no filtration i left the female in half the tank with a clear jar so they can see eachother and feedingthem worms will help them get ready to breed i waited a week and the male started building a bubble nest along the glass of the tank and in some floating plants and after the female was full of eggs i put the female in and the male chased her around and went back to fix up the nest he did this a couple times it didn't breed and i didn't wanna leave the female in without me around and went to work when i got back i found the female was  hiding outside of the jar away from the male and a closer look at the nest i saw bunch of lil egs and the male was picking up fallen eggs... the female must have jumped out of the jar and eventually ended up laying eggs so itook the female out and put her back in my other tank and left the male do his job after a day or two there was lil frys and the male would put it in it's mouth and spit it back into the nest don't take themale out until all ther frys are free swimming i had trouble feeding them since i had no infourisa available so i used the egg yolk trick and powdered freeze dried bloodworms and i had a bunch of pond snails so i put them in to clean up watever was leftover i also threw in some live worms so when the frys were big enough they would pick at them and they did lol out of the hundred frys only 15 survived to juvenile and those i raised and had to get give them away and traded some b/c keeping even 15 bettas in separate one gallon jars took up alot of space on my shelves, cleanin and feeding wasn't so bad but still a pain in the butt to do always got water all over the place i wouldn't mind trying again but all the bettas i had(3males and two females died from some internal infections over a few months
there are alot of sites out there that can help ya breed and raise them check out thekrib.com and http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/anabantids/ there are some helpful articles in there
