Post Same Breed, Different Breed

I have a Male and Female gourami (Couple). Whom seem to be ready to mate, but I don't know if it is worth the effert to try and breed them. One is a Pale Blue and one is a Fire red. Does anyone know if this matters? What color will the babies be ? (Purple)
Or will it not work at all because they are Different from eachother?

I was also wondering if anyone has had some exsperience selling there baby fish. Who to sell them to. Fish store, Online or word of mouth?

Jennifer, are they both dwarf gouramis? Or ar they the regular ones?
If they are dwarfs, they are both males as the females are silver.  Sounds like the red one is either a cinnamon or a flame, which are dwarfs. The pale blue could be a regular or a powder blue dwarf. The dwarfs will not breed with the regular gouramis. Most dwarfs are colisa species. You could try doing a search for colisa lalia, which is what the powder blue dwarfs are.

As far as I know they are both dwarf. Still confused on the whole matter. I do know how to tell the sexes apart, and they are a male and female. I probably won't breed them anyway. I'm moving them into a 55 gallon from a 6 gallon tank. Once i get some more fish in there they will forget all about each other. Thanks.

Jennifer, the females of all the dwarfs are a silver colour with hints of the markings of the males.
I would hazard a guess that yours are two males. Finnage and body girth means nothing with the dwarves. It's the colour and shape that tells the tale.

I have to say I think you are wrong. They are not fighting, they are carressing each other and spend allot of time doing this.

Hehe, homoerotic behavior is somewhat common in nature. Many species of fish will even lay eggs when homogenously paired - discus, for example. If you perchance have two discus and they "court" and even lay eggs, but the eggs are never fertilized ...

But I digress ... I was trying to illustrate how behavior can sometimes lead you astray. Usually, anatomy is a much safer benchmark to go by.

Sorry Jennifer, but I think luvfishies is correct, I was also under the impression that the females are silver, very obviously so. I guess it's possible that the fish you have is a female, or that your pair is male/female ... but then I would hazard a guess that they are small gouramis not of the dwarf species.

Perhaps you could snap a pic for us?
