Post Breeding My Bettas, Any Tips?

I think I finally am going to breed bettas, I was wondering if anybody had any tips on breeding a healthey stock of bettas. The only thing I have bred is the snails I have in a decorative container on the mantel! The bettas I want to breed are my cambodian female, and my black crowntail male.

Post Re: Breeding My Bettas, Any Tips?

Basically, you have several steps

1. buy bettas(preferably 2 pairs in case one apir is incompatible or if one dies etc.etc.)

2. condition bettas(get the frozen and live fodds comin)

3. Put male in tank(2-10 gallons size with hiding places like floation plants real or plastic)

4.male builds bubblenest in tank(make sure the tank is quite and has no aeration or filtration to destroy the nest)

5. put fat female inot a jar and put jar into tank, but don't let them get contact yet

6. male should flare at female, feamle should get stripes

7. when female gets tripes release her inot breding tank(be sure males bubblenest is large and ready)

8. Sit back and watch carefully, have a net next to you
(steps 9-11 may not follow in that exact euence, but as long as they spawn its okay) be prepared to seperate them if the fighting becomes very serious, life of one threatened.

9. Male and fmeale may do some fighting, some fin shredding may occur, but they are just testing each others strength

10. Male just flares and stops bitiing, fmelae may wiggle to the male

11. spawn in bubblenest

12. Remove female from tank

13. Leave male to care for eggs.

14. when young hatch, leave male , but as soon as they begin to wander alot remove the male(usually three days later)

15. Raise young.

Post Re: Breeding My Bettas, Any Tips?

First thing you need to do is make sure you have enough 1 gallon jars.. haha I breed them and that was one of my biggest mistakes.. I had nowhere to put the males... Oh and remember you need to drop the PH to about 6-6.2, keep the temp at around 82F and feed them lots of live food... keep atleast 4 females to one male. The females are ready to breed when it looks like there is a white poop prairie dogging lol ....
