| Glass tank cover vs. no cover? I feel as if my plants are getting the full 3.25 wpg from my light without the glass cover. Other than evaporation, is there any draw back to leaving the cover off? I don't believe I have any jumpers currently in my tank.

| It's fine to leave the top off, if you don't have jumpers. |

| I would get a top. I thought that i had no jumpers but 3 fish commited suicide cause i didn't have a hood. The fish i had in the tank were 3 guppies, 1 baby catfish, and 1 baby siamese flying fox. Now i only have my catfish and my siamese fox.

| Thanks for the responses. I now just have to decide if I want to take the chance of finding out the hard way that I actually do have jumpers.

| Yea seems there is always a jumper in the tank no matter what type of fish you have.
Both of my tanks have escape artist in them. But my smaller tank's cover is set to where the light no glass inbetween it and the water.

| Generally speaking, any top dwelling fish is a good potential jumper. Of course any fish could be. But fish only swim quick and erratically when they feel threatened or when there is something wrong with the fish or the water. So other tankmates can also play a part. I've had a beta in a 2.5 gallon with no glass top for a pretty long while now and he's never made an effort to jump out.
