Default Journal - 22g Noob Planted

I figured i will start a journal so i can show the process step by step.

I have some new stocking ideas i wanted to also share.....

2 GBR, 5 Cardinal Tetras, 2 Pearl Goaurmis, 1 oto, 1 red-tailed shark
2 Dwarf Cockatoos, 5 cardinals, 2 pearls, 1 oto, 1 red tailed shark
2 angels, 3 bleeding hearts or other tetras, 1 oto, 1 red tailed shark

As you have noticed, i plan to keep my red tail. He is such a beautiful fish, and i pretty much rescued him from his old home. Will he be compatible with those fish?

also this is where i left off on my old thread.

Update: I just went down to my trusted lfs and talked to them about my lighting. He said he will make some calls and talk to the other employees to figure it out. He wanted to give me a saltwater, coral life light and special order some plant bulbs for me, but it did not fit inside my stupid hood. Hex tanks suck!

BTW, i have also just learned that my blue background is built in and i cannot take it off. Do they have background that you can install inside the tank, as i would really like to get black.

How big is your hex? Is it the 22G to which you refer in your signature?

Personally, I'd leave off one of the gouramis and get a few more tetra, particularly if you go with cardinals. The larger the school, the happier the tetra. I can't say how the red-tailed shark would fit in.

And, you don't plan on using the saltwater bulb, right? That would have to be changed out if you're going to plant this tank.

Yes, the saltwater bulb will definitely switch out the bulbs. Could i do like 10 small tetras, but take out 1 pearl goaurmi? I just dont know how my red-tail will like it. I have also herd that red-tails can eat small fish if they get the chance. Is that true, and are they compatible with rams or apistos?

Well, i got my new lighting today. Its a coral-life 12" 36 watt fixture. For now its a 50/50 and blue actinic light. My lfs manager is going to speacial order some 6700K's for me. Ill post pics later.

Its amazing how much better your tank looks with good lighting!

I also have a few questions
1. This thing is really hot! Is my canopy not ventilated enough?
2. Will the 6700K's be as hot as these?

Ha, i wish i had a bigger tank, no room though. Still waiting for those bulbs, should be in soon. I think i will take back my bala today since this is taking longer than expected.

Also, i was on aquabid looking at galaxy rasboras, or AKA pearl danios. They are very pretty, and they would be perfect in my new planted tank. They are realitively new, does anyone know anything else about these fish?

I've had some of those for about a year. I don't really like them, to be honest. They hide a lot, and need really fine food because their mouths are so small. They're pretty, but I hardly ever see them. I have them in a heavily planted 10g tank with cherry shrimp, so it's not like they have any predators.

Thanks Lotus, it was just an idea, and i don't think i will be getting them anyways. However, i have something else to address. I am planning on keeping my red-tailed shark. I will be returning my bala, pleco, and tiger barbs. Will the red-tail be a problem with my stocking ideas?
