Great new additions, Jeff.
Columbian 'cartel' looks good, lol. That's a great shot of the pencilfish, by the way. I'm assuming you resized it (as opposed to cropping it) down to a 'forum-friendly' size? I can only imagine that the original must be POTM material for sure.

Actually, I both cropped and resized it. And now it's not eligible for POTM, since I've posted it

The next time I snap a shot I think could win, I'm going to save it for a contest...

Well, I liked the Columbians so much that I stopped by the LFS last night and picked up 3 more, giving me 9 in total. I also came home with 6 Amano shrimp

It's really bouncing back nicely. Congrats man! Way to take a horrible situation and turn it into something wonderful!

As noted on another thread, a weekend away led my tank straight to a BGA (at least, I think it's BGA - I'll try to get pictures) outbreak. Smelly, green-grayish fuzzy/slimy stuff is covering almost everything in the tank. Time to start antibiotics, hopefully tonight.

Please, please let me know if you think I've misdiagnosed my algae...

EDIT: Something 'clicked' when I was reading another BGA thread and I realized that I actually meant to refer to BBA in my response below (I never had BGA in my tanks; only BBA and green-spot/hair algae). I guess just ignore everything I wrote. Sorry.

Too bad about the algae...I feel...err, 'felt'...your pain.

Green-grayish eh?
Sounds like what I had when my BGA's growth stalled and started giving way to some green-spot/green-hair algae. As a result, the BGA on the surfaces (mostly driftwood and rocks) looked 'green-grayish' as you described.

The BGA stalled completely once I added more CO2. The green-spot/hair algae took hold once nutrient deficiencies started showing up (you know all about that situation already, lol).

All I can say is that I hope you manage to annihilate it ASAP!

Last night, I did a 15 gallon water change (5 RO, 10 tap) and attempted to physically remove as much of the BGA as possible. Then, I started treatment with erythromycin.

Here's a question - while I'm treating for BGA, should I resume my fertilizer dosing schedule? Or should I hold off until the BGA is mostly defeated?

Still dosing EM for BGA, and I think I'm winning the battle. However, another kind of algae is causing problems. Today, I removed all the tank decorations and scrubbed them with a toothbrush, and did about an 85% WC after vacuuming as much of the insane amount of detritus I'm seeing in the tank (I actually think it's algae, since a lot of it attaches to the rocks, etc. - but it looks just like normal tank waste) and refilled before dosing the EM. The tank looks a lot better, and I feel like I'm back to a neutral position from which to watch my levels and find out what deficiencies/overages were causing my problems.

I also put two terra cotta pleco breeding caves in the tank (I removed the two smaller flower pots) and put the driftwood on top of a stack of lace rock. I hope to have pictures soon (and I took some of the nasty algae that was everywhere).

The detritus you are seeing is probably the dead BGA from the EM. L134s are seasonal, you may have to wait until after next seasons floods to get some. Durring the off season if you find them on AB they normally sell for up to 80 each. I'm suprised our friend doesn't have any...that's where I got my males from.

Good to know. Thanks

Heh, I wish our friend (although I thought you got your males from the other breeder in Chicago) did - I'd much rather pay $15 again than $80...
