| Re: how do you plant a bannanna plant? to get some roots going you should put some plant food into a little tank of water and let it sit. If you don't want to wait then just put it in the gravel like fish boy said. ;D

| Re: how do you plant a banana plant? you don't need to do much, just shove it into the substrate. If theres enough light and you fertilize, when its settled in it will grow literally a few inches a day

| Re: how do you plant a bannanna plant? According to the "BIBLE" A perrenial plant with a short stem. The swollen tubercles resemble a bunch of bananas. Long petioles bear circular leaves of bright green or reddish colour. Do not bury the tubercles when planting, only push the fine roots into the gravel. After 6-9 months in the aquarium the plant should be cultivated emersed for some time.
I would suggest placing a plant weight (lead strip) around the base and let it root itself. 8)

| Re: how do you plant a bannanna plant? I dont know what weights and ties you guys use, but mine dont hold a thing down, just together(they are even called plant weights)
I say, if there is no visable root, to tie it to a pebble or small rock, and bury the rock, leaving the bananas on top of the gravel.
The leaves bloom if left floating( so I read)
But if shoving the bananas worked for kitten, then I guess you could do that. Kitten..how long did your plant live/ have been living?

| Re: how do you plant a bannanna plant? Barb, I use real lead strips about 1/4" wide and as long as is needed, when you use the proper amount the plants will not go anywhere. 8)

| Re: how do you plant a banana plant? My banana lillies have been in my tank for a year, they're pretty big (wide) and i have to constantly untangle the tall stalks, the tank is 18inches high, these stalks are 30inches! It's really not that hard to grow. And yes i really do just "shove" the roots into the gravel

| Re: how do you plant a bannanna plant? thanks alot you guys! I guess since i am not too knowledgeable i will just shove it into the gravel and see how lucky i get. it was 60 cents anyway, so no biggie.
