Post pruning vallisneria

Can anybody tell me what is the correct way to prune vallisneria?  Mine has grown over 2 feet in length and is blocking all light to lower plants.  Is it ok to snip off the top of the leaves or will they die off?

Thank guys, I am glad it will survive but it does kinda suck that the leaves don't look as natural now that I cut off their pointy ends. hehe

snipping off the tops will make them look shorter.. but you can thin them out by cutting entire leaves off the base. I prefer this much more cuz it doesn't give the unnatural look that the other method produces.
