Post Takashi Amano style tanks. Anyone ever created one

Man these style of tanks are simply spectacular. Has anyone every created one?

Substrate mixtures? Would DIY CO2 help?

I have a 33 gal where I will be adding (when I can afford it) 110 watts light.
Can anyone pass on some suggestions?
Thanks.

i model my tank after his methods (look at my amano section).

i tried to go for that 'mountain' look so when i was in japan i purchased those rocks you see in my amano section. then i tried growing some glosso for the foreground and various plants in the back.

my tank is a 29gallon. it has 110W of lighting. with that much lighting..you definately need to add c02 which i do from a 10pound tank. it's going about 2bubbles/sec right now.

hope that helps!

oh..substrate is all flourite.

i'm trying to create an aquatic zen garden in my 6g.. but i think my rocks are too big..

right now, there's hairgrass, glosso, micranthemum umbrosum, and crypt. balansae.. gonna remove the crypts and micranthemum soon and just grow hairgrass and glosso.

i'll be sure to update my site w/ new pics once the tank is ready

I'm going to start my 33 gal with 110 watts of light. Will I need CO2 as well? I'm toying with the idea of not starting the 33 gal and going right to a 66 gal. With a 110 watt compact fluorecent that would only give 1.6 watts/gal. With the 33 gal, that would give me 3.33 watts. I was looking at a 55 gal as well. That would give me only 2 watts/gal.

I want to go with the heavily planted tank in the Takashi Amano style.

Suggestions?

if u want to grow the tanks that amano grows, you'll definately need alot more lighting than normal. with thatmuch lighting, you need to have c02 to help balance out the tank.

the larger the tank, the more money it's going to cost you (more plants, more lighting etc).

you should ask segadojo since his tanks are very wellmaintained so he should be able to help you more. i just recently got my tank back under control. i had massive algae problems earlier. it was caused by lack of c02 in my tank so i cranked it up a few bubbles and now everything looks good.

hope that helps.

I have something like an amano, well its more or less a mess of java moss and driftwood. Still in the making though. Its a 20G high, with 80 watts. I dont use co2 but my fish load is heavy very very very little algae growth the bristle noses are taking care of it quite nicely.

if u don't add CO2 with over 2 watts/gallon of lighting, you're not getting the most out of your lighting since CO2 would easily be limited.

its not to say that you won't have a successful tank w/o CO2.

Why do I have to use the CO2 for the tank? I want to add a diy kit for the tank, but is it a must?

Here's what I plan on doing.

Either it's the 33 gal I have now, or upgrade to a 66 gal (most likely)

Add at least 21 kg of seachem fluorite with a pea sized gravel added on top for decoration.

Start with a 110 watt compact fluorecent and get another one as soon as I can afford it.

Add a gallon jug of diy CO2 injected into the tank via the filter impeller method. (eventually get a commercial system)

Plant the hell out the tank and hope it works.

Suggestions anyone?
