Post Riccia growth?

I have two bunches of riccia that I bought from two separate LFS and they both are growing well in my tank but very differently. *As I look at the aquarium displays at my LFS the riccia grew long and appeared almost like grass. *One bunch I am growing only sends out short Y shaped growth, *it is growing but not producing a long Y but rather small Y shape outgrowths. *The other bunch I recently bought grows really long Y shape outgrowths, however, this has been only in my aquarium for 1 week. *Is there a way I can get long spindly shaped riccia instead of these shortstunted ones. *My LFS has really low lightings and no CO2 yet they grow well. *I have 3w/gallon and DIY CO2 in my tank too.

Post Re: Riccia growth?

i would just wait it out, either one will slow down or the other will speed up and they should eventually end up the same if they are both riccia. my other thought is that one might be getting more light in the tank than the other, is there anything blocking light over the one that is growing more slowly? i wouldn't worry too much about  ;D

Post Re: Riccia growth?

the only reason why the one in your LFS has long stalky growth is because of its low light conditions.  Most people who grow "riccia rocks" actually prefer the shorter growth.  It has a nice lawn, or moss effect.  Check the Top Tanks section.. there's one tank that uses riccia patches really well.

There is nothing wrong with the riccia in your tank.. just healthy, normal growth...
