Post Non-green plants?

Anybody have any suggestions on a hardy red, orange, or yellow plants (other than dying).  I want to add contrast to my green plants but I need something in the beginner level so I don't kill it too fast.

Red Luwiga (sp?) is one I've managed to keep alive for a while.
Sunset Hygro, too. It's not as fragile as I had been lead to believe.  I got some from AZGardens that was, well, sorta cooked.  Surprisingly it's bounced back and is currently attempting to take over it's corner of the tank.
Bronze or Red Crypts work.
Those are the ones I actually have experience with.

i'd go with crypts, they are pretty easy to keep, and they come in a whole bunch of colors.  ;D

Bronze wendetii.

Nice bronze, olive green, deep red purple backs. I love these.

Sega has another nice red plant he might want to comment on...I am thinking of ordering the same one.

Sounds good with the crypts.  I heard they were pretty easy.

Post Re: Non-green plants?

I bought a purple wendtii crypt (sp?) and it was one of my first plants ever and it's still alive after 4 months and it had "babies" and I stocked my new ten gallon with them and put some more in my 29 gallon tank. They are really hardy in my experience. And I dont' have really great lighting either. ;D

Post Re: Non-green plants?

I'd recommend staying away from Rotala Macaranda.
I have a lot of it in my planted 15 gallon, but its a very difficult plant IMHO.

The stems are very soft/fragile, making it difficult to trim and replant. Also its very sensitive to lighting and water conditions...it struggled and was dying in my tank until I up'd my lighting from 2.6 watts per gallon to 4 watts per gallon.

Lighting aside, it doesn't do well in any type of current at all, as it tends to pull free or break its roots and float away
It does look very very very nice though when it gets going, and mine is growing about .5 inches a day.

Welcome geoffgarcia!!

Another name I know from the mean people forum.

Since sega didn't respond, he has a nice red plant named Alternanthacae sessilis.
