Post Profile substrate. Anyone used this product?

I found this substrate today called Profile. It's 100% fullers earth or 100% Arcillite. It looks like clay and is recommended for Ponds. I've heard about it before and decided to pick up a bag.

Has anyone used this before? It looks exactly like this gravel I picked up at Big AL's called Walnut. I have 10kg of the walnut in my other tank. No probs there.

I have noticed that the Profile has remained stable at a PH of 6. My usual water here is ~5 or so. KH & GH are non measurable.

I'm thinkning of mixing around 10kg of Profile with 7 kg of Fluorite with 10kg of gravel in my new 66 gal.

Suggestions?

Yes, many people have used 50% fluorite and 50% profile and it works well.  I have 100% profile and it does the job also.  Another have 50% profile and 50% gravel and pretty much same results.  Only problem with profile is that it is light and requires gravel or fluorite to keep plants down.

If you are looking for the cheap way..It works fine.

I Hate compared to my flourite, but it does work as an extra planted tank for cheap.

I kinda mixed it with gravel, my plants have no problem staying down in the 5 inch substrate I provide. You can barley tell it has gravel mixed with it.

It is very dusty stuff....and have fun cleaning that and the flourite.....I did. :

BTW..your water ~5 of what usually? PH is 6.

You are going to have a hard time adding Co2.

Is your water sent through a purifier or water softener?

No our water here on the west coast is normally around 5.5 ph. It has NO minerals in it. GH & KH are 0. I'm not kidding.

The profiles looks like it might work. I'm going to get a bag of fluorite, a couple of bags of profile and a bag of regular gravel and see how that works. Should be ok.

Thanks for the info.
