Question 3 inch Worms in Gravel

Hey guys, it's been awhile!

Recently my dad and I drove my two remaining tanks (90g and 20g) up to North Carolina for him to care for. He's had them about a month and a half now and he called me today with a little problem. He lifted up one of the rocks and a 3 inch worm fell off and buried itself in the gravel. He says he was able to get it out of the gravel a number of times but it kept reburing itself. He described it as a whitish colour with a redish "head". According to him all the fish appear healthy (besides a random Killi death the other day).

Any ideas as to a) what these could be and b) how he can get rid of them?
