I kept a male and a female in a 10 with no problems. LOTS of hiding places though. I found it only worked out when got them both youngish so they were just always used to eachother.

I find the female's much more responsive when she can 'smell' the male. I think that's it at least. I know if I drop water from my male's tank (these two I have now are seperated), into my females she gets her breeding stripes almost immediately.

The clear divider might do the trick for that.
