This is the fun part

trying to figure out what to get lol. The barbs should be fine together as long as there in a school. As for cichlids, if you want them you will need to get some water softener. You could go with dwarf cichlids like Rams, Apistos, or Kribs. If you went with one of the dwarf cichlids you should get a male and female. good luck
