The metric system makes things easier when calculating volumes. (Metric = litres, metres, kilograms etc).
In the metric system, 1 cubic metre of water contains 1000 litres. In addition, 1 litre of water weighs exactly 1 kilogram at sea-level. So, in the metric system, you simply multiply the dimensions of the tank and multiply the resuly by 1000 e.g. :
1.5 metres length * 0.5 metres width * 0.75 metres depth * 1000 = 562.5 litres.
So the water in this tank would weigh 562.5 kilograms.
The problem with the use of "gallons" that sometimes causes confusion is that the American gallon and the British gallon are different.
USA gallon = 3.785 litres
British gallon = 4.546 litres.
