Start off your week with a picture of a Scuba Dog! Anyone know if this is real or not?

“On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour. If the greenhouse reduction achieved in the Sydney CBD during Earth Hour was sustained for a year, it would be equivalent to taking 48,616 cars off the road for a year.” - http://www10.earthhourus.org/
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.
As for large aquariums….
The Monterey Bay Aquarium will joined thousands of other businesses that have committed to observe “Earth Hour” on Saturday. The aquarium will shut down non-essential systems between 8 and 9 p.m. Saturday and asking employees to shut down computer work stations, turn off lights in empty work areas and turn off non-essential electrical equipment during the weekend. The Earth Hour program was developed in Sydney, Australia, last year to dramatize the need to address global climate change.
if anyone works at google….i’m jealous.

“….In this dazzling aerial display, over a million starlings wheel and dive across the setting sun, creating elaborate patterns and drawing the admiring gaze of fascinated onlookers.”
quite an amazing sight. so many birds in the sky that it turns dark. then of course the immature me asks the next question is - for those who go and watch this or those who just happen to be beneath this mass of birds…does it happen to them as it did to this guy (see video below)….

If you have an old TV laying around or if you’re looking for an excuse to get that shiny new plasma TV, here’s your chance to do it! From now till March 15th, 2008, you can bring in your old TV and get a $100 credit to something at SonyStyles.
I looked into it some more and it sounds like it has to be a Sony product but it looks like it can be any TV (which is great!).
For more information, go to Waste Management’s Sony Page to find a local recycling center near you.
While you’re at it, might as well bring any electronic waste you have lying around (monitors, printers etc) to get recycled and help save the planet.
As the technology industry sees continued growth, the amount of electronic waste is also increasing. A study by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency showed that in 2005, used or unwanted electronics amounted to approximately 1.9 to 2.2 million tons. Of that, about 1.5 to 1.9 million tons were primarily discarded in landfills, and only 345,000 to 379,000 tons were recycled. By recycling old electronic products, useful materials such as glass, plastic, copper wiring – even precious metals – can be collected and re-used in the manufacture of other products. Recycling not only minimizes the amount of waste needed for disposal, it also minimizes the extraction of new raw materials from the earth and resources required for processing.
