White-Cap Clownfish Video - Amphiprion leucokranos

one of my prized fish that i’ve had for a few years now is the white-cap clownfish. They are very very hard to find (and if you found one let me know where!) and I’ve been searching for a mate for him/her for a long time now. There was a time where I actually had 5 of them but b/c my tank was not set up at that time (they were being temporarily housed). When my tank was ready, there was only 1 left (the rest were sold or given to my friend who was helping me hold them - long story short).

It’s a really really shy fish. It’s housed in it’s own 29 gallon tank that is plumbed to my 110 gallon tank. I gave it a rose anemone for it to host in and it rarely leaves it. If it does, it darts out to grab food and immediately back inside. Here’s a video of it.

My 29 Gallon Planted Freshwater Tank

MsDannielle.com sent me a nice email about our site here and she mentioned she has a 30 gallon fish tank also (did you join our forum yet?). So it reminded me about my own 29 gallon (yes..1 gallon smaller) and so i went and found some old pictures of my 29 gallon planted freshwater tank.

This was really my first “real” tank that i set up. At that time, I was really mesmorized by Takashi Amano Planted Tanks and I actually went out and bought all his books. Heck, I even went to Japan and took a bus to his store and then lugged back like 20lbs of rock back to the US!

So anyways, here are some pictures I was able to find. Enjoy!

20gallon2.jpg
This was the first layout I did after coming back from Japan. Notice the authentic Amano Co2 parts on the left side of the tank (the bubble counter and the diffuser inside the tank - i could watch the bubbles go through that tube all day long). I started out with some val’s as freshwater plants in the background but they grew way too fast and I was always pruning them. The rock structures inside the tank are the rocks I bought at the Amano store.

20gallon4.jpg
Here’s the 2nd version of the tank. I removed the val’s and introduced a new plant to the tank (and as of right now, i can’t remember the name of it - no it’s not riccia). I just remembered that if you give it enough light and c02, it’ll grow horizontally instead of vertically. So with a bit of tuning to find the right amount of c02, i had my green carpet that i always wanted in my tank.

here’s a shot of the tank from the top. 100% coverage! yea! then i realized…how am i going to prune it? would it all start to grow on top of each other and then i would have a layered tank?

Check that out! black hood, black background, black stand. black is back baby! the full tank shot. I still have all the parts..maybe one day i will start it up again. one day.

Ms. Goldfish

I noticed unfortunately that I was missing a goldfish at the office. Because I needed a certain number of goldfishes as per my previous post about Feng Shui for Your Aquarium, I went to my LFS today to get one. While I was there browsing, I noticed this really interesting goldfish that I couldn’t pass up. I hope that because it’s not completely “gold” it won’t be that bad. But it looks like it’s got lipstick and mascara or eyeliner (not sure what it’s called haha). pretty interesting huh?

Since I’m on the topic of goldfish, my black goldfish (moor) is turning colors. It used to have a completely black body but now the body area is fading and no longer black. I also had another golden goldfish that turned completely white. How strange…anyone know why?

My Red Ear Slider Turtles From Chinatown

I forgot to mention that I have a turtle tank. I have 2 turtles actually. 2 red-ear slider turtles. I got them probably like 4-5 years ago when I went to Chinatown to eat Dim Sum. I was walking around and saw these tiny turtles for sale and I had to get them. I actually got 4. Then I gave 2 away when they started to get kinda big.

Turtles are like the easiest pets to keep. They always get all excited when you get close to the tank because they are happy to see you..or they are happy to see you b/c you feed them. One time the filter broke and I didn’t get a chance to fix it and yet they were as happy as if the filter was working.

I feed them sparingly to keep them small. My friend has 2 also and feeds them everyday and they’re twice the size of mine. I hope one day to build a pond and give them a permanent home there.

Here’s a short clip of the rose anemone collection I am starting to collect. I think I’m at 12 Rose Anemones now scattered throughout the tank. I need more!

and for those who saw my older thread about how many rose anemones and I had a poll that asked how many i had..the correct answer was 7. :)

This weekend I finally got a chance to stop by my LFS and pick up some stuff. Here are some goodies that I picked up to add to my tank.

Another Rose Anemone to add to my collection. I picked up 2 today but 1 went into hiding.

this was a green anemone with red tips. It was huge and I haven’t seen this variation in awhile so i couldn’t pass it up. It’s currently hiding under a rbta.

Crocea Clams all look the same to me so when I see something unique, I have to pick it up. It looks better at the store. haha
