The Vaterfloris Rasbora, also known as the Orange-Finned Rasbora or Singhalese Fire Rasbora, is a fish for the specialist. Males of this species are smaller than the females and tend to be more colorful.

Rasbora veterifloris requires a well-established planted aquarium with superior water quality and stable water conditions. This species is compatible with other peaceful fish as well as others of its own species.

This Rasbora requires a warm, densely-planted breeding tank in order to spawn. After spawning, the water level should be reduced to around six inches. After the eggs hatch, usually in 36 hours, the fry will require live foods such as newly-hatched brine shrimp.

An omnivore, Vaterfloris Rasboras do well on a diet of prepared flake food, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex.

The Axelrod Rasbora is a peaceful, active, schooling fish. This fish is one of the more brilliantly colored species of the genus, especially the male.

Rasbora axelrodi needs a well-established, densely-planted aquarium with plenty of free swimming space available. This species does well in a community aquarium with other peaceful and similarly-sized species.

Unfortunately, the Axelrod Rasbora’s breeding habits in the aquarium have not been documented.

The Emerald Eye Rasbora is a beautiful species of Rasbora that originates from the streams and tributaries of Asia. They have an elongated body shape with a prominent dorsal fin. The dorsal fin is yellow in coloration with a black dot in the center. They are a peaceful, schooling fish that will add a diversity of form and activity to your community aquarium.

Black Harlequin Rasbora

The Black Harlequin Rasbora is a popular aquarium fish. These fish have a black, triangle-shaped patch starting near the dorsal fin, and a mostly black body. The male’s patch is slightly rounded at the bottom with an extended tip, while the female’s is straight. Females are larger than males.

Harlequins require an established planted aquarium. They should be kept in schools of 8-10 and in an aquarium with other small, peaceful fish.

Rasbora heteromorpha like to spawn on the undersides of broad-leaved plants. A breeding tank with shallow, warm, acidic, soft water with broad-leaved plants should be set up. Pair a young female (9-12 months old) with a two-year old male and feed them live foods. After spawning, remove the parents and keep the aquarium dark until the eggs hatch (after about 24 hours). The Harlequin Rasbora is an extremely desirable aquarium addition thanks to its gorgeous metallic coloration and ease of care. It’s not difficult to see why so many hobbyists treasure it. A large school of Harlequin Rasboras fill the upper areas of the aquarium with movement and color so lively and vibrant that even non-hobbyists marvel at the display.

The Harlequin Rasbora is easily identified by its characteristic black “pork chop” shaped patch and beautifully lustrous copper/orange body. The distinguishing triangular patch begins near the dorsal fin and comes to a point near the base of the caudal fin. The patch on the male Harlequin Rasbora is slightly rounded at the bottom with an extended tip. In contrast, the patch on the female Harlequin Rasbora is straight. The female Harlequin Rasbora is also larger than the male.

The Harlequin Rasbora does best in an established planted aquarium with open areas for swimming. The Harlequin Rasbora should be kept in schools of 8-10 individuals and housed with other small, peaceful fish. The mild nature of the Harlequin Rasbora makes it a great community fish.
