Unique Tank Idea

Fish News - 1,253 Views 4 Comments »

Wow..talk about having a really unique looking tank. This is a tank designed by Octopus Studios (thanks for the link from my friend!) called the “Silverfish Aquarium” and the first few things that come to mind is ‘how do you clean it’ and ‘what happens when all the fishes want to be in one of the domes?’. haha.

According to the website, maintenance is as easy as having a regular tank. It does come with a cleaning kit so it must be designed just for this tank. It actually comes fully furnished..with the stand, filters, lighting, equipment and etc.

This is pretty cool! I didn’t expect them to find such a preserved baby mammoth.

Here is some information about it..

The frozen body of a baby woolly mammoth that died some 37,000 years ago could shed new light on why the giant creatures became extinct. The six-month-old female calf - discovered in the permafrost of northern Siberia by a reindeer herder - is one of the best-preserved mammoths ever found.
Its trunk and eyes were still intact, while it still had some fur left on its body. Its tail and ear were bitten off, probably in a fight with a predator or another mammoth, but there are few clues as to how it died….

If you think your tank is too big or someone tells you not to get that big tank….I present to you..the AQUADOM!

from wiki….

The AquaDom in Berlin, Germany, is a 25 meter tall cylindrical acrylic glass aquarium with built-in transparent elevator. It is located at the Radisson SAS Hotel in Berlin-Mitte. The DomAquarée complex also contains a hotel, offices, a restaurant, and the aquarium Sea Life Center.

The AquaDom was opened in December 2003. It cost about 12.8 million euros. The acrylic glass cylinder was constructed by the U.S. company [1]Reynolds Polymer Technology. The outside cylinder was manufactured on-site from four pieces; the inside cylinder for the elevator was delivered in one piece. The Aquadom is the largest acrylic glass cylinder in the world, with a diameter of over 11 meters, built on a 9 meters tall concrete foundation. Filled with about 900,000 liters of seawater, it contains some 2600 fish of 56 species. The feeding of the fish and the cleaning of the fish tank is performed daily by divers.
